SPARK Summer 2021
​Program Calendar and Registration

Program details and descriptions are listed below. At SPARK, we believe that it's important for kids to have a choice, so please review the options below with your child. to make sure that they are interested in participating in the program before signing up.   

All necessary equipment will be provided for all summer programs. 
​There is no cost to participate but the capacity of each program is limited so sign up today!

The SPARK program is limited to residents of Ashland County or students enrolled in
the School Districts of Ashland, Mellen or Butternut in grades 6 and up.
For summer programming, students must have already completed 6th grade.
Students who will begin 6th grade in the fall can participate in after school programming beginning in September.

MONDAYS

Outdoor Adrenaline
Mondays 11a-5p
This pod will focus on outdoor adrenaline sports like rock climbing, Mountain biking, learning to paddle in whitewater rapids and anything else you can think of that mixes adrenaline with the outdoors. Be ready to be challenged and to push yourself this summer!
Hike & Explore
Mondays 12-4
This pod will focus on finding beautiful outdoor places to hang out, picnic, read, write and relax.  Expect to spend some time sitting next to a waterfall with friends,  a pen and a notebook .
Skatepark Action Sports for new Beginners
Mondays 12- 3p 
This pod is meant for those of you who would like to learn to Skateboard or ride BMX in the skatepark but might be a little intimidated to try when the skatepark is full of more advanced riders.  After this summer, you’ll feel comfortable and confident on your board or bike in the SPARK indoor park, the outdoor park in Ashland and you might even visit a park or two in a different town!  BEGINNERS ONLY

TUESDAYS

Nature Photography

11a- 4p- Tuesdays
Cameras provided!
Learn how to take great photos and get to hang out with your friends in beautiful places.  Waterfalls, lakes, rivers, caves, cliffs and more.  ​
Mountain Biking

10a- 4p- Tuesdays
Mountain Bikes and
helmets provided!
Mountain biking is a unique and fast paced way to move though nature and cover alot of trail. On this weekly mountain biking course we will explore the gorgeous trails of the northwoods, and have fun tearing it up! Don't have your own mountain bike? No problem! We have high quality mountain bikes and safety equipment for you to use

WEDNESDAYS

Time to Make
Some Art!

Wednesdays 11a- 3p
all necessary materials provided
Would you like to spend a day each week making some art?  Painting, drawing, sculpting, murals, anime?  You can help shape the topics, but this pod will focus on the visual arts.  Maybe you can have an art show at the end of the summer or paint a mural somewhere in town!

THURSDAYS

Paddleboarding & Watersports

Thursdays 11a- 5p 
Get out ON the water with stand-up paddleboards, canoes and kayaks.  Explore the places that you can’t get to by foot.  Be ready to wear your sunscreen for this watery summer adventure pod.
Music and Beatmaking

Thursdays 11a- 3p 
Learn how to use the digital music making equipment and start making your own music!  Collaborate with your friends and work on songs together!  Write lyrics, raps, make beats, record TikToks.  Let your inner musician shine!
All levels welcome, but this pod is designed for beginners.

FRIDAYS

Backpacking and Camping
Fridays
1-2 overnight trips
all necessary equipment provided
Learn how to set up a good campsite, learn how to pack your backpack to get ready for a longer adventure. Get out on some long hikes and get off the beaten path. Learn about wildlife and plants and spend an overnight or two camping in a beautiful spot!
